LA BASTARD - "THE FABULOUS SOUNDS OF" - CD OTH 7113

Conceived in late 2010 and finally born at the start of 2011, La Bastard is an exciting new Melbourne band that captures all the joy and heartbreak of the 1950s and 1960s greats such as Lee Hazelwood, Roy Orbison, Wanda Jackson and Ennio Morricone, and tops it off with the attitude and energy of more their contemporary heroes including the Gun Club, Man... Or Astro Man? and the Jesus Lizard.

A four piece fronted by outspoken vocalist Anna (formerly of the Melbourne band Kimbo), La Bastard have built a reputation for an explosive and interactive live show that at its best has included playing ON the bar, pillow fights and break dancing, And PLENTY of audience participation. The music, too, speaks for itself – clearly exhibiting the band's love and knowledge of classic rockabilly, soul, country and surf music, as well as their obvious substantial talents as musicians and songwriters.

La Bastard's self-titled debut album features 10 songs designed to immerse you in tales of both pleasure and pain, recounting lost loves and misadventures as well as the sweet revenge exacted by the scorned. With the majority of the album recorded live in a single session at Secret Location, Fairfield by Paul Maybury and Jesse Booher, La Bastard have captured the wild and spontaneous energy of their live shows – but have still managed to produce 10 tracks which each retain their own unique style, identity and story.

A great listen when you need cheering up or want something to shake your money maker to. Breaking up never felt like so much fun!
